Blue Heron at Campground near Yellowstone
This is a blue heron that was at a campground near Yellowstone. It was the first one that I'd ever seen. Imagine how silly I felt went a couple of months later, I was visiting Lake Evergreen, about 15 miles north of my house and saw scads of them. Where had they been all of my life?

Looking down the mountain at Yellowstone. Some of the trees were burned from lightning strikes. Weather reports include the number of lightning strikes per day and I was astounded how many there are.

Artists Paint Pots at Yellowstone
Artists Paint Pots at Yellowstone, a group of over 50 springs, geysers, vents and especially mud pots. These exhibit varying shades of blue, grey and brown, and have a range of different textures, with the behavior changing during the year depending on the amount of subterranean water. I'm thinking that it smelled of sulphur there.

Bison at Yellowstone
So I've decided to start posting old vacation pictures just so that there in something on facebook other than mudslinging about the election. I'm familiar with the Chincoteague Pony Swim for charity at Chincoteague Island in Virginia. So, I bet this bison decided to start a similar event. Not too many takers though. The idea must not have caught on yet at Yellowstone.
Elk at Yellowstone
I can't believe all the people who have told me that they went to Yellowstone and NEVER saw anything other than bison and deer. We saw many different kinds of animals including this elk. I guess that we were lucky.
